Join Us through World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms

WWOOF is an international network which links volunteers with organic farmers. Here at West Town Farm, we've been hosting volunteers from both the UK and abroad for many years. As part of the agreement the farm provides free accommodation and a weekly food provision for our WWOOFers and in return they help us out on the farm.

Experience

No previous experience of farming is necessary but applicants need to be 18 years of age or above, for insurances purposes. You will also need to be able to live independently as you will be responsible for your own cooking and cleaning.

Whilst no experience is required, we do look for WWOOFers with a keen interest in learning about organic farming, conservation work, and tending to livestock.

What to Expect

Whilst the types of activities that WWOOFers get involved with varies with the seasons, you can get expect to get your hands dirty as you gain experience working closely with our livestock and carrying out wildlife improvement projects such as hedge laying and fence work.

Feeding, bedding, moving and monitoring our animals is a constant job on the farm. As is planting, weeding and harvesting our squash crops, pruning and picking apples, and chopping wood and kindling for the winter.

Our WWOOFers work 4 days a week and have 3 days off. In exchange, we provide on-site accommodation and organic food provisions. Occasionally, you may also be asked to help with routine work on days off, such as tending crops and checking cows.

You'll be working with Andy, Sarah, Kate and the rest of the team. We're a fun team who work hard, but enjoy laughing our way through the day. We ask that all WWOOFers are prepared to stay for a minimum of one month, although this may be extended for up to three months following a review.

Accommodation

We have private accommodation that is suitable for both couples and individuals, with kitchen and bathroom facilities that are shared with staff and other WWOOFers.

In the spring we typically have one or two WWOOFers at a time, however, in summer there may be up to 4 WWOOFers staying with us. Whilst we have a brilliant community and the daytime can be very busy with lots of people around, the farm can feel quiet in the evenings, so this experience may not be for everyone.
