A big thank you!

Monday October 31st 2016

We want to thank everyone who attended Apple and Pumpkin Day, it was a huge success and our busiest yet. So nice to see many faces from the village. We were so lucky with the weather!

We still have many pumpkins left, and apples….crumble, anyone?. We just had a fresh meat week, so our freezers are now full with our delicious organic meat. Our next meat week will be in December, if you would like to be added to our mailing list,in regards to this, let me know. The farm shop is open between 9am-5pm.

Helen and the farm team have been busy with the beef cattle. The vet has been to carry out castrations, this has many significant advantages both to the animal and the meat. I’ve been happy to sit this out and plan weddings/events for next year in the WARM office.

We are thrilled that organicARTS, the charity based at West Town Farm, have received a BIG lottery grant to continue the work they do in their community garden for another five years.

About 10 years ago organicARTS offered to work with a group of people through Exeter CVS to clear and use the farm garden. Over this time the garden has been funded for a year at a time, but for the last year has struggled to survive with no funding.

It is now a thriving garden with 30-40 people a week growing vegetables, fruit, flowers and trees. The rest of the garden is maintained so that it can be used during educational visits where schools and other groups can learn about seasonal vegetables and cook with them over an open fire.

The garden is open on a Wednesday and Friday from 10.30 to 4pm. Do come up and visit if you would like to see what they do and find out more, or if you or someone you know would benefit from joining the group.
