The mysterious hill.
The barn on the hill was used for storing straw. One night a group of people decided that it would be fun to set light to it. The fire brigade worked all night to contain the blaze but the barn was destroyed and has never been rebuilt.
The Pump Hut. The hut contains the pump for the natural spring that supplies West Town Farm with fresh water. The farm then has a network of pipes taking the water around the different fields so that the cattle and pigs have access to water.
Mysterious Hill This hill has a very strange shape. Some people say that it is a burial mound, some that it is made up of the soil and rock dug out for the railway and others that it is a natural formation. What do you think?
Cattle Feeder Andy puts hay and silagein these feeders for the cattle when the grass is not growing enough.
Footpath Sign The farm has a Permissive Footpath running across it. Follow these signs to take you from one side to the other. Increasing access to farm land is part of the Environmental Stewardship scheme.
Access Map This map shows the route of the Permissive Footpath across the farm.
The Quarry The trees on the hill mark the site of a filled in quarry. This was where the stone for the railway was dug out. Later it became the farm dump. Now, filled in and overgrown, it is the forest school site at the farm.
