Education is a key part of West Town Farm. It is clear that farming to most children is a mystery and more schools are encouraging students to leave the classroom to experience learning in alternative ways. West Town Farm has been visited by local schools for over 10 years and since organicARTS have been here we have been able to offer so much more.
We have produced an information pack for teachers, please open the .pdf document below:
West Town Farm is a rich environment for many varieties of study and we are always working on new ways for you to explore and find out more about the farm and the countryside.
OrganicARTS offers expertise in education and the arts with trained teachers and artists whilst the farm offers practical farming demonstrations and the chance for your children to engage with farming alongside us. We all aim to help your class interact with the farm in as hands on a way as possible. There are many areas of the farm you can visit and we have an interactive trail around the farm that you can go on. The trail is slightly changed each month to take account of the changing seasons and the farming year and it includes access to:
Visits can take place in different ways:
Groups
Group visits from Schools, Family Centres and other organisations can either be Self Led Free Visits which are FREE or Facilitated by OrganicARTS.
Self Led free visits
The group contacts organicARTS to discuss what they would like to do on their visit, what facilities are available and to arrange a date. What happens on their visit is the responsibility of the group. This is ideal when the group is clear about what they want to do and have the necessary skills to carry out their project.
There is no charge for a Self Led visit. As part of the Higher Level Stewardship Scheme the Farm receives funding to support visits of an educational nature.
Visits facilitated by organicARTS
OrganicARTS have a wide experience of supporting many kinds of visit. We can also draw upon a network of skilled workshop leaders. We will discuss with you your groups needs, provide pre-visit support and information and then lead you through your visit. There is a charge for Facilitated Visits of between £3 and £5 per person depending on the activities chosen.
